Phragmites is a perennial wetland grass
that can grow to be 20' tall. it has dull, rigid and hollow stems and can
persist throughout winter. |

Leaves: Leaves are very smooth,
narrow, and grayish green in color. Flowers:
Blooming in July through September are large purple-brown, turning golden
brown with age feathers.
Fruits & Seeds: Thousands
of seeds are produced annually but viability is usually low.
Roots: It has a dense network
of roots and rhizomes the can grow up to 6' deep.
Ecological threats
 | Phragmites invade moist habitats
including lake shores, river banks, and roadways. |
 | After invading a site it quickly
takes over and creates increased fire potential. |
